At Barracks Artists Studios, we offer a space for all types of artists to produce work. Types of artists could be: sculptors, metalworkers, printmakers, painters or woodworkers etc.

Applications are invited to be considered for the artist in residence programme operated by Barracks Artists Studio.

Barracks Artists Inc, is a regional, artist run studio facility, located in Thirroul, NSW, Australia on the beautiful south coast of NSW between the mountains and the sea.

The studio, operated by local practising artists is available for short term contracts.

  • Easy access to public transport, buses and trains.
  • Short walk to the shops and beach.
  • Shared non residential facilities include, kitchen, relief press, etching press, drying rack
  • The studios are open to the public during Thirroul Seaside and arts Festival but otherwise operate as private studio space.
  • Visual artists, musicians, composers, writers, community artists are encouraged to apply.
  • $50.00 per week + key deposit (includes public liability insurance)

How to apply

  • 1 - Download an application form
  • 2 - Write out the application and make a copy to keep
  • 3 - Post the application to Barracks Artists studio with $50 AUD as a holding deposit (cheques and postal notes to be paid to Barracks Artists)
  • 4 - wait for notification or approval by Barracks Artists committee

Barracks Artists committee will notify you of the committee decision (Meetings are held 3 monthly)

History

 Barracks Artists studio is in Thirroul NSW Australia.

"The Barracks Artists"  Studio is occupied and managed by 5 visual artists.

Barracks Artists studio group first met in December 1996 and became incorporated in December 1997
The studio became available from February 1998. The first open day for Thirroul Seaside and Arts festival was in 1998.

The artist in residence programme started soon after this.
A small grant from cultural services, Wollongong City Council helped the studio to cover set up costs. The studio is now self funded.

Open Day

The studios are open to the public only during the Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival.

Barrack's Artist's invite you to drop in and meet some of the Artist's and see their works.
